Stamp duty holiday
As reported widely, the stamp duty holiday sees the suspension of property purchase tax on the first £500,000 of all house sales in England and Northern Ireland. The scheme, which has been in place since July 2020, was set up to encourage confidence in moving house and reverse the fortunes of the housing market. Of course, as a result of the pandemic, the UK saw 50,000 fewer people moving house in the first half of 2020 than in the same period of 2019.
But the stamp duty holiday has persuaded many to make the move and take advantage of the situation, creating something positive out of the pandemic. For many, working from home has afforded people more time to consider moving further away from their work premises, whilst for others, it’s highlighted that a new home is needed, complete with office space and a bigger back garden.
If you’re one of the many taking advantage of this scheme, then you know you’ll need solicitors, estate agents, removals companies and the like. But what about your waste clearance? You certainly don’t want to be paying removals companies to transfer old unwanted items to your nice, new house and you don’t want to clutter up a bigger house as soon as you move in. Which all means it’s time to start thinking about what to take with you and what to get cleared.
House clearances tips
Each house move is individual so there’s no right way or wrong way to approach it but there are certainly some steps that can help to make the waste clearance aspects of the move go that little bit more smoothly.
Separation of your items is essential in order to make sure that no accidents happen, meaning that you end up forgetting to get rid of certain items or, worse still, getting rid of items that you want to keep. How you do this depends on how you’ve organised your moving plans, but whether you move all of your unwanted items into a separate room or if you leave them all where they are whilst you move the items you’re keeping into your new house, it’s important to stick to the plan.
A useful tip can be to make an itemised list of the things you’re going to get rid of, or to take photos of them if they’re organised together. Here at Clearabee, we can use lists and images to provide you with an accurate quote for the responsible removal of your unwanted items and even use them to make sure we are providing the most convenient, cost-effective and eco-friendly service for your clearance.
House clearances with Clearabee
If you’re organising your dates for removals vans, deliveries and so on, then Clearabee’s designated-day collections can be a real difference maker. We can offer AM or PM slots on the day of your choice, but if you require a more specific time then be sure to contact us to see if we can accommodate your request.
If you’re considering this designated day option, we would recommend that you leave a wider window of time than you think you’ll need. There can often be unforeseeable hold-ups in situations like these, such as accidents causing traffic or people leaving keys behind in a panic. It’s always best to err on the side of caution to avoid a domino effect of things potentially going wrong.
For an even more convenient service, you could look at moving all of your unwanted items to the garden or a garage that we can access, meaning that you won’t need to be at the property when our waste operatives arrive to transfer your waste. This means that you can be at your new home, getting settled in, whilst we remove your unwanted items from your old home. We’ll send you before and after images so you can see how the area’s been cleared so you can be sure that a good job’s been done.
Even if things have become more complicated leaving without as much time as you’d like, Clearabee can still help your pre-move clearance go smoothly. Our ‘Man and Van’ service can attend your property and clear your unwanted items, often on the very same day. Again, the more detail you can give us, the more appropriate service we can provide but from a convenience point of view, you could simply pay the flat call-out fee of £59.99 and our waste professionals will be able to assess your waste once they’re on site and remove as little or as much as you require.
Try our waste calculator to get a better idea of how much our services cost and which clearance service could be the most convenient and cost-effective for you.
If you’re saving yourself some money due to the stamp duty holiday, then it’s not worth risking anything other than a reputable, registered waste carrier like Clearabee to be certain that your rubbish will be moved responsibly. To do otherwise and risk using an unreputable, unregistered rubbish removal service could see financial repercussions and/or possible prison sentencing. You can read more about the facts of flytipping here, but you can have confidence in Clearabee.
