Skip Bag Size Guide: How Big is a Skip Bag?
Read Time: 4 mins
If you’ve got home renovations planned, garages to get organised or sheds to clear-out, the chances are that you’ve already thought about buying a skip bag. Many people know that they’re a great alternative to hiring skips but those same people also have a few reservations about size. Which leaves just one question: how big is a skip bag?
How Big are Mini Bags?
Our Mini Bags are a great option for getting rid of general household refuse. This could be the remnants of overflowing bins that can’t wait for the next weekly bin collection, or this could be small amounts of garden waste such as clippings and grass cuttings that can’t go in the general waste wheelie bin.
Size-wise, each bag can contain 25 kg (which is approximately 25 bags of sugar) in weight and 42 litres in volume. For reference, the most commonly sold domestic bin bags are around 60 litres, but our mini bags are much more durable, as suggested by the weight limit.
If you’re getting serious about your clear-out though, you’re going to need something a little sturdier still, and with a little more size.
What size are small Skip Bags?
The answer is, they’re probably bigger than you think. The dimensions of our small Skip Bags are 90cm x 90cm x 90cm or 1 cubic yard in size. Much like skips, we tend to approximate the size of our Skip Bags to that of domestic washing machines. With that in mind, small Skip Bags can contain waste which is roughly the size of 2 domestic washing machines.
Our small Skip Bags are suitable for all kinds of waste streams and are in the privileged position of being the only Skip Bags that we would recommend for removing heavy and dense waste such as bricks, rubble and soil. Able to contain 1000 kgs in weight (which is approximately 10 washing machines in weight), our small Skip Bags are ideal for getting rid of rubbish from the shed, clearing out junk cupboards or lightening the load in the loft.
But what if you need that bit more space?
How big are medium Skip Bags?
To help envisage the size of our medium Skip Bags, we compare them to the size of 3 domestic washing machines or a small bathroom suite. This makes medium skip bags ideal for getting rid of kitchen cupboards and worktops, bulky pieces of furniture such as armchairs or, yes, a small bathroom suite including bathtub, sink and toilet.
Measuring 180cm x 90cm x 70cm or 1.5 cubic yards, medium Skip Bags are able to contain 1500 kgs in weight and 50% more than the small Skip Bags. However, Medium Skip Bags are not suitable for filling with bricks, rubble or soil. Such waste streams quickly exceed the weight restrictions that are applicable to both the Skip Bag and the lorry which will come to make the collection.
For some renovations though, you just have to go large.
What size are large Skip Bags?
Large Skip Bags are the size of 9 or 10 washing machines and are similar in size to a medium skip. These Skip Bags are ideal for the remnants of kitchen renovations, bathroom rip-outs or saying goodbye to the contents of your garage.
Dimensions-wise, large Skip Bags measure 210cm x 165cm x 100cm or 4.5 cubic yards, if you prefer. Again, like with the medium Skip Bags, these are not suitable for heavy and dense waste such as bricks, rubble and soil. Although large Skip Bags are able to contain 1500 kgs, which is approximately the same weight as a Vauxhall Corsa, a bag full of heavy or dense waste would be impossible for a crane and hoist to lift.
Whatever size of skip bag you decide to settle on, they can be delivered to you during the next working day and they arrive through the post in a rolled, folded or flat-packed state. That means that they take up next-to-no space in your house, garage or shed before you actually need to use them.
Our small, medium and large Skip Bags all come with free delivery as standard whenever you buy a Bag and Collection. For further pricing, head to our Skip Bag price page.
