FAQs
Wigan skip hire FAQs
When considering a skip, there are a few things you should think about including which is the most suitable, where you plan to place it and what you plan to dispose of in it.
We have detailed our main skips with our FAQ section, but we can hire out almost any type of skip upon request.
A ‘Midi’ skip (4 y3) is generally the smallest available in the UK. ‘Builders’ skips are 6 - 8 cubic yards and larger still are the ‘Maxi’ and extra-large skips, which range from 10 - 12 yards.
Specialist skips for large commercial projects are usually priced by transport and tonnage rate and include Roll On, Roll Off (RORO) containers.
There can be additional costs associated with skip hire, but these can be mitigated with planning.
Skip permits & suspensions - if your skip needs to go on the road you will need to pay for a skip permit and you will need to pay for a parking suspension if you plan on using a parking space.
Wasted journeys - these occur as a result of failed collections and deliveries and will incur a cost when it is not our fault.
Overfilling - You could be charged extra or the collection may fail if you overfill your skip.
Prohibited items - hazardous waste streams - which include fridges, tv and paint - cannot be disposed of via a skip and could incur a substantial additional cost.
The following items are prohibited from skips unless there is prior agreement:
White goods and large electrical items
Hazardous waste such as fridges, TV’s and fluorescent tubes
Plasterboard and gypsum waste
Chemicals, liquids and solvents
Food waste
If you’re planning to place your skip on the public highway, you will need a skip permit. These are issued by your local council and the costs and details vary from area to area. Clearabee can provide the skip permit for you and pass on the additional cost.
If your property is in an area which has permit parking or Pay and Display parking space, you will need a parking suspension as well as a skip permit to place a skip.
These suspensions are usually charged by the day and will require the council to place a notice to suspend.
