FAQs
Hull skip hire FAQs
Here are a few frequently asked questions that we often get asked about skip hire.
For any other questions, we also have a full skip hire FAQ page.
Whilst skips are generally a flexible waste removal solution, certain restrictions exist regarding which waste streams can go into each skip and the mixing of different waste types.
In most cases, standard household and bulky business waste can be disposed of via a skip, as can standard garden and construction waste streams.
The following waste streams are prohibited from being thrown in a skip without prior arrangement:
White goods and large electrical items
Chemicals, liquids and solvents
Hazardous waste streams such as fridges, TV’s and monitors
Food wastage
Plasterboard/gypsum waste.
The smallest skip that is generally available is the ‘Midi’ skip, which is 4 cubic yards in size. Ascending in size are the 6 - 8 cubic yards ‘Builders’ skips, followed by the 10 - 12 yards ‘Maxi’ and extra-large skips.
Ascending further still are specialist skips such as lockable skips, enclosed skips and Roll On, Roll Off (RORO) containers. These are usually priced by transport and tonnage rate which can be provided upon ordering.
If you intend to situate your skip on a public highway then you will require a skip permit from your local council. The costs vary depending on the local authority but in most cases, we can apply for your skip permit and pass on the additional cost.
If you are planning on placing your skip in an area which has permit-only parking or if the parking space is Pay and Display, you will require a parking suspension alongside a skip permit.
There is an additional cost associated with this because parking suspensions are usually charged on a day-by-day basis and require the council to place a notice to suspend the parking space.
