FAQs
Harrogate skip hire FAQs
When considering skip hire, there are a cornucopia of questions to answer, such as skip size, skip type and what you plan to dispose of in it.
We have gone into detail about our most-popular skips within our FAQ section, but we can hire out specialist commercial skips upon request.
A ‘Midi’ skip is the smallest skipwidely available at 4 cubic yards in size. Next up are ‘Builders’ skips, which are 6 - 8 cubic yards, followed by ‘Maxi’ and extra-large skips, which range from 10 - 12 yards.
At the larger end of the scale, skips available are the Roll On, Roll Off (RORO) containers. These are specialist skips for large commercial projects and priced by transport and tonnage rate with quotes available in a couple of hours.
There can be additional costs with skip hire, but these can be mitigated with advanced planning.
Skip permits & parking suspensions - if your skip needs to be placed on the road, you will need to apply for a skip permit. You will also need to apply for a parking suspension if you plan on using a nearby parking space.
Wasted journeys - these can occur as a result of failed collections and deliveries and will incur a cost when it is not the fault of the skip provider. Please ensure that the skip can be dropped off and collected and that there are no issues to access.
Overfilling - It is required by law that the load is safe to transport so if you overload your skip, you could be charged extra or the collection may fail.
Prohibited items - hazardous waste streams including fridges, TVs and paint, etc cannot be disposed of via a skip and will incur a substantial additional cost.
The following items are prohibited from going in a skip unless there is prior agreement with Clearabee:
Any hazardous waste such as fridges, TV’s, fluorescent tubes and monitors.
Plasterboard/gypsum waste
Large electrical items and white goods
Liquids and paints, chemicals and solvents
Any food waste
If you need to place your skip on the public highway, you will need to acquire a skip permit first. These are issued by your local council and the costs vary from area to area. We can provide the skip permit for you and pass on the additional cost.
If your property is in an area which has permit parking, or if the skip has to be placed in a Pay and Display parking space, you will need a parking suspension as well as a skip permit.
Parking suspensions are usually charged by the day and require the council to post a notice to suspend the space, all of which increases the cost considerably.
